Hello,
Hope you are staying dry and cool. Wet and muggy is what is going on in Dallas. Anyone have the schematics for an ark? I've been here since '89 and don't recall a June that had this weather. During a Dallas summer, you're luckyto see a cloud in the sky from mid-May to mid-September but this year it's monsoon season, baby! Among the good things about it is that the lake levels are normal or above, the years-long drought should be over and the pool water is still refreshing to dive into instead of the warm bathwater it usually is at this time of the year. However, one of the downsides is an increase in the mosquito population and those hell-spawned vermin have a pronounced affinity for my young, tanned hide.
I just finished a healthy lunch of a banana and half a Dr. Pepper and I am FULL! I guess one of the things about a reduced calorie lifestyle is that it doesn't take much to fill a stomach. I was thinking a couple of days ago of how good a porterhouse steak, baked tater and salad would taste. That meal would last me a good three meals nowadays.
As for this way of life, it may be well and good for other people but for me - I don't think I have ever felt so under utilized, my potentials and contributions so wasted. There were times while working in IT, too few, where the work, at most, was mildly amusing...and of course, there was the money. But now...if I didn't have a couple of ongoing writing projects, there is not anyway of telling what I would be doing; probably no good. The job thingy hasn't panned out anything. I don't see how some of the homeless continue. As for me, I'm confronted with a different set of challenges on this path that I was selected for and I wish there were some road signs along the way to help.
Over the past few days, due to extreme fuel conservation, the truck has been at one location; any moving around is accomplished by foot. How did our ancestors get by? Oh, right...they had horses...or something to ride...and if the ride ceased to be ridden they could always cook and eat it. Anyway, I watched people come and go and wondered if they feel that they are living up to their potential. I've read that the majority of people surveyed view their job as a way to pay the bills but lacking in any real satisfaction. Seems such a waste of person's time and life...but if that's the only game in town, you have to play to eat.
But I wonder what the world would be like if every individual had the opportunity to identify and achieve their potential instead of just passing the time until retirement or death, of where the only real possibilities of true fulfillment are outside the boundaries of the typical workday.
